Holy what? Yes, I did just indicate that I only have a week and a half left of school.</div><div><div><br /></div><div>Anyhoo, this is going to be a picture mania post. The topic? My 10 day trip to South East Asia during the second semester of my first year. The reason? A field study HR consulting project for a major company. (Hint, if you look hard at some of the photos, you might be able to figure out who...like you care.)</div><div><br /></div><div>So, to begin we went to Hong Kong. Begin pictures now (click to enlarge):</div></div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbl23snOozoEDi1Mhwl7r9gIbm7fkXaoNI2u5bNUOS28b0uRB__ScC7imIlJpbzqWA-iY1opxTqVFIRzMLshknjAeDB4C30b04p9KGUSjDhv9FpiXTSFU2EhG061lRv2PKDIKT6PQDBMs/s1600/IMG_0380.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbl23snOozoEDi1Mhwl7r9gIbm7fkXaoNI2u5bNUOS28b0uRB__ScC7imIlJpbzqWA-iY1opxTqVFIRzMLshknjAeDB4C30b04p9KGUSjDhv9FpiXTSFU2EhG061lRv2PKDIKT6PQDBMs/s800/IMG_0380.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453833494285691330" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">At the Hong Kong Airport</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Okay, so we didn't actually go to Hong Kong, but because there was a 14 hour flight involved in getting there (of which I slept 13 hours straight), and also because I happen to have a picture of us there waiting our connection, I get to count that we went there.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">In the picture above you can also see 3 of my 4 travelling companions, one being our professor and advisor on the project. We did actually leave the airport and begin our journey there. Singapore is amazing and I can say without any hesitation that I'd live there in a heartbeat if given the chance. The following is a brief account of many experiences throughout the first semester, encompassing Aug-Dec of 2008. Don't let that scare you, I promise brevity. And pictures too! </div><div><br /></div><div>Many may disagree (often to their detriment), but the first semester of B school is really all about finding and securing a job. Sure, grades are great warm fuzzies for some, but I need something that's gonna pay the rent. Therefore, <b>my</b> first semester was all about gettin' the job. </div><div><br /></div><div>And how does one do that? Well, mostly you work your ace off networking, give up trying for straight A's, spend countless hours researching companies, revising your resume, and doing mock interviews, then hope that someone decides they like you enough in the 20 minutes they have with you in your real interview to offer you a second round chance. Also, you take time off and spend money you don't have to travel to the companies you're most interested in. Hence, the trip that four of us took mid-semester to the Bay Area to try to get our foot in the door of some major orgs. For security purposes, I won't be listing any company names here, but enjoy the only pictures we took on this trip:</div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8-M4rFu5Naa8zJvQSdjmr_q7k9SYxpwwBVJmOh6I7PDmlIbMEWVGRL6avz0EVL_GAcx2pZ-sgjChoe9dNYTq_LSkC8X7dgtcY0KfxRjR5LDtTCH5-auPo0nvwUoVkmiigWwkPb8OVmgw/s1600-h/DSC_0007.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8-M4rFu5Naa8zJvQSdjmr_q7k9SYxpwwBVJmOh6I7PDmlIbMEWVGRL6avz0EVL_GAcx2pZ-sgjChoe9dNYTq_LSkC8X7dgtcY0KfxRjR5LDtTCH5-auPo0nvwUoVkmiigWwkPb8OVmgw/s400/DSC_0007.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451200884224146994" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Kim, Emily, and Chloe</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf8rUl1HJPqoPoXguhc9Gp7quuV-rQwJ8uuEBhU_ztYdkbiOxVNYzSmarJpFgzOJHJlANXB563yf3LGiqHev0nXYnX67Rpw6tmI7BbyFu38fvUCb0whyphenhyphen6H-8sEjTyFyRsFJw1q55RhLQc/s1600-h/ChloandJu.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 290px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf8rUl1HJPqoPoXguhc9Gp7quuV-rQwJ8uuEBhU_ztYdkbiOxVNYzSmarJpFgzOJHJlANXB563yf3LGiqHev0nXYnX67Rpw6tmI7BbyFu38fvUCb0whyphenhyphen6H-8sEjTyFyRsFJw1q55RhLQc/s400/ChloandJu.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451200874615039218" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Chlo and me (I know I've posted this pic before but I just love it so much.)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Happy to report that the trip paid off and I got an internship offer from one of the companies we visited, due in large part to the extra effort we'd gone through to get out there and in front of them. In the end I decided it wasn't the right fit, but it was nice to have the option and to know that the effort was worth all those B's on my report card.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">In addition to the trip above, my first semester also consisted of first round interviews with numerous Fortune 500 companies, a few second round interviews that took me to places such as Phoenix, New York, Charlotte, and Seattle, and ultimately an offer to work for my number one pick, and one of the largest companies in the world. WOOT!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Not listing the names of all the organizations with which I interacted does not adequately do justice to the amazing opportunities I had during that first semester. Even thinking back on it now, I'm amazed by the doors that have been opened for me since coming back to school. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I could go on and on about that last statement, but I think I've already surpassed brevity so now I'll stop. Just doing my best to <a href="http://byjuhu.blogspot.com/2010/03/new-years-resolution-47586a7.html">prove it</a>. </div>juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-83260608906458390702010-03-19T07:37:00.000-07:002010-03-19T08:01:53.093-07:00New Years Resolution #47586a7You guys. 14 days of actual classes left in my entire educational career (please no one even mention a PhD to me right now - <span style="font-size:78%;">sadists</span>). How sad is it that this is only my 17th post since the <a href="http://byjuhu.blogspot.com/2008/08/inaugural-night.html">beginning</a> of my school adventures? So much for memory preservation. Is this why we're counseled to keep journals? Is not a blog journal enough? I guess not when you're only averaging .85 posts per month. HUGE SIGH.
<br />
<br />I'm not one to commit myself to blogging, but writing out the above is actually somewhat alarming because there are<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <meta name="ProgId" content="Word.Document"> <meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 2008"> <meta name="Originator" content="Microsoft Word 2008"> <link rel="File-List" href="file://localhost/Users/greg_keller/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/msoclip/0clip_filelist.xml"> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:officedocumentsettings> <o:allowpng/> </o:OfficeDocumentSettings> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:worddocument> <w:zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:trackmoves>false</w:TrackMoves> <w:trackformatting/> <w:punctuationkerning/> <w:drawinggridhorizontalspacing>18 pt</w:DrawingGridHorizontalSpacing> <w:drawinggridverticalspacing>18 pt</w:DrawingGridVerticalSpacing> <w:displayhorizontaldrawinggridevery>0</w:DisplayHorizontalDrawingGridEvery> <w:displayverticaldrawinggridevery>0</w:DisplayVerticalDrawingGridEvery> <w:validateagainstschemas/> <w:saveifxmlinvalid>false</w:SaveIfXMLInvalid> <w:ignoremixedcontent>false</w:IgnoreMixedContent> <w:alwaysshowplaceholdertext>false</w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText> <w:compatibility> <w:breakwrappedtables/> <w:dontgrowautofit/> <w:dontautofitconstrainedtables/> <w:dontvertalignintxbx/> </w:Compatibility> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:latentstyles deflockedstate="false" latentstylecount="276"> </w:LatentStyles> </xml><![endif]--> <style> <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Cambria; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Cambria; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> </style> <!--[if gte mso 10]> <style> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;} </style> <![endif]--> <!--StartFragment--><s>walks<o:p></o:p></s> <!--EndFragment--> things to remember. I've done a bunch of wicked awesome things these past two years that deserve recognition beyond the pictures preserved in my unshared Picasa libraries. SO, here I am committing to blogging them all out over the course of these last 14 school days. Finals nothing, I've got journaling to do!
<br />
<br />Oh, you thought I'd share a memory now? Ha, no. The first step is admitting you have a problem, or committing to blogging, or something like that. Stay tuned!

Moving on...</div><div><br /></div><div>[Begin lecture on Brain 101]</div><div><br /></div><div>These are flare images of Greg's brain. First, some logistics: the portion of the brain that looks like it's missing in the top left hand corner is indeed missing. This was mostly removed at the age of 12 when he had the first tumor, with a small additional amount removed during this last surgery. It is actually the right front lobe of the brain that is gone. For orientation sake, imagine Greg is laying down and you are looking straight up through his chin and into his brain - this is the angle of the image.</div><div><br /></div><div>Now that I have your attention class, I can further explain. The picture on the left was taken just after his surgery in November and as you can see, contains significantly more enhanced areas which represent dangerous tumor matter (the white-ish areas that look like Africa one one side of the brain and a stingray on the other). These areas were the targets for the chemotherapy and radiation treatments he has endured for the past two months. The size of those areas alone is kind of scary, no? But fear not young student! The image on the right is from last Friday, and (hurray!) shows very little enhanced area remaining. So basically what I'm saying is that the treatments WORKED.</div><div><br /></div><div>[End totally accurate and highly intelligent* lecture]</div><div><br /></div><div>I can't tell you how relieved we were to meet with the doctors and find out about this positive progression. We're not yet done - Greg will be on chemotherapy for another year - but the outlook is really good for the future.</div><div><br /></div><div>On another note, it's just nice to know that the pain and suffering wasn't in vain. Not just the pain of radiation beams and poison running through the body, but even the logistical pain of driving between Provo and Salt Lake daily. The upside? 4400 tax deductible travel miles! Gotta think on the bright side of things...</div><div><br /></div><div>So that's the update. And here's another picture for good measure. It's not of a brain, just a handsome man.</div></div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkc_Z4jYbPIEMZffay5uJzctfvTQILX9xCz2Y2P8HgfRJzXHDp799X91uryy9mWsKLnIXkeRXsTo7HvANXbysA4URnZ9pTAhf3_uNeIC1k2IAtA_kyMULIc1SvajZz4dwjgcjg2QtZIw/s1600-h/DSC02100.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkc_Z4jYbPIEMZffay5uJzctfvTQILX9xCz2Y2P8HgfRJzXHDp799X91uryy9mWsKLnIXkeRXsTo7HvANXbysA4URnZ9pTAhf3_uNeIC1k2IAtA_kyMULIc1SvajZz4dwjgcjg2QtZIw/s400/DSC02100.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442679435537438546" /></a><div>*Spell check just informed me that I spelled "intelligent" wrong. I'm up too early, it's cold and grayish (and surprise! it finally looks like winter around here), and this month is so bland I can't even think of anything to write. Mostly hoping the words come as I proceed...<br /><br />...<br />.....<br /><br />Oh, ok. So last night Greg and I spent the evening with a <a href="http://kristinandoliver.blogspot.com/">bunch</a> of <a href="http://ronellandbriawna.blogspot.com/">awesome</a> <a href="http://andimeanthatinthenicestpossibleway.blogspot.com/">people</a> just sitting around, eating, playing games, eating, etc. and eating. At one point came that inevitable portion of any group hang out where all stories begin with "one time", after which we each proceeded to tell the stories of the things we did as kids that drove our parents crazy. Since it is February, and I can't imagine you have anything better to do, let's take that same trip down memory lane together, shall we? Don't worry, I'll keep it bite-sized.<br /><br />Probably one of my favorite memories of the like was when my big brother <a href="http://thehuletherald.blogspot.com/">Robb</a> and I shaved my little brother <a href="http://irockbutimsad.blogspot.com/">Geoff's</a> head. He was probably 7 or 8 (which would have made us 11 and 13) and had this longish, super straight bowl cut. Instead of shaving his entire head, however, we shaved just the top portion and left the sides so he'd look like a balding old man. My memory tells me that we also found a cane and some glasses for the big finish, and staged his entrance for when my parents would return that night. The moment of presentation came and went and I don't actually recall the parental reaction because even to this day all I remember is how funny we thought we were (and still do!). I think they might of laughed, and then secretly cursed our names what with family pictures in the morning and all. Plus, let's just say that 8 year old Geoff's head wasn't...cough...quite suited for baldness at that time. <span style="font-size:78%;">Love you Geoff!</span><br /><br />There are other things that come to mind, like how we rode sleeping bags down the stairs so many times that a few of the stairs actually broke, or how the tree in the backyard got spray-painted, or the dog's hair got dyed, but one memory is probably sufficient for today.<br /><br />Plus, no one wants to hear about how I pierced my own eyebrow once and got laughed at by my parents. At least, not today.juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-18322046537423199012010-02-11T09:23:00.000-08:002010-02-11T09:25:35.844-08:00I'm just sayin...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhczejUT6zVZC5a6Iygasl3BvP2qr0V7RW9V9vUftrTQbNBH48GryVO8ZWWN8wO79NL-mGv3SdiMOMmIVmBbrIbQTBRd0REdXlhibXZTKeCmXxSM_1biR2Da_qJIxrKOoTt4qHcBjnE_nM/s1600-h/Desktop.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhczejUT6zVZC5a6Iygasl3BvP2qr0V7RW9V9vUftrTQbNBH48GryVO8ZWWN8wO79NL-mGv3SdiMOMmIVmBbrIbQTBRd0REdXlhibXZTKeCmXxSM_1biR2Da_qJIxrKOoTt4qHcBjnE_nM/s400/Desktop.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437038115523595954" /></a>juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-74381051438538848972010-01-07T12:23:00.000-08:002010-01-07T12:54:54.493-08:00Confessions of a real adult - take 1Every now and again I have brief moments when I suddenly remember that I'm an adult. Sadly, they are usually the most insignificant moments in life- like when my AAA membership comes due, or when I have just laid down to bed and realized the candle is still burning in the other room and I have to get up again, or even just when the paper towels run out and my conscience reminds me that a responsible adult doesn't leave it for the next person to replace. Sigh. I can't even remember when I accepted adulthood. Have I? All I know is that I have cried once or twice in the past about having to grow up. Like, full on cried. How's that for a confession?<br /><br />(Side note: there is a guy down the hall right now that looks exactly like Wesley from the Princess Bride. Mustache. Greasy blond bowl cut. Ok, he's gone now.)<br /><br />Adulthood boggles my mind. It is simultaneously amazing and horrible. For example, in the spring of last year when I found myself on a consulting project in Singapore I wondered if life could get more awesome. However, a year earlier as I was paying upwards of five grand to replace the boiler in my house (I know, who has a boiler anymore?), I wished and prayed for a time warp machine to take me back to pre-school days when the worlds biggest problems revolved around whether there would be snacks. Am I the only one perplexed by the constant contradiction?<br /><br />My brain hurts.<br /><br />Anyhoo, the point is that I am an adult. Like it or not. And I deal with hard things daily. But I still like Disney movies. And my joints hurt. MY JOINTS. I go now.juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-9568975119048836792010-01-03T18:08:00.000-08:002010-01-03T20:29:23.742-08:00This is not a New Year's resolution.So, it's been a while, yes? (Insert excuses here _________). Now that that's out of the way we can get on with the update. It has been almost a year, and admittedly there was little content prior to that, but honestly, who wants to read a diatribe about every tiny detail of the past year and a half? Not me. I'd rather share in pictures! And to keep things as simple as possible, I'll stick to the three major events of the past year. So now, I give you:
<br />
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">THE INTERNSHIP
<br />
<br /><div style="text-align: left;">I moved to Houston for the summer to complete an internship with a big name company. It. Was. Awesome. The job was great and all, but it was really the FOOD that made the experience. So good, it was worth taking pictures. Greg visited every few weeks and we found time to do some amazingly fun things and fell in love with the city. Lucky thing, since (news alert!) we'll be returning there for my full time job post MBA.
<br /></div></div>
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI1iJYUiJxvvCtpq7DV9nyVXwgXZNHFWw9v1CZh0Qd3UAqO8WOBTphFxV8nu3dLmP22Fb9hoprvZi_ktxpOToPjxZwUpYei49cnRd1OlgqWYVGaVV8i6uSU_v1Z3MHEcKdPGfClbMdBr8/s1600-h/Houston.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI1iJYUiJxvvCtpq7DV9nyVXwgXZNHFWw9v1CZh0Qd3UAqO8WOBTphFxV8nu3dLmP22Fb9hoprvZi_ktxpOToPjxZwUpYei49cnRd1OlgqWYVGaVV8i6uSU_v1Z3MHEcKdPGfClbMdBr8/s400/Houston.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422704433617340114" border="0" /></a>
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">THE WEDDING
<br /></div>
<br />Obviously this event deserve(d)s a post all of its own, but in the interest of time and attention spans I'll just say that it was the most perfect wedding the world has ever seen. Greg and I spent an entire week in Boston before the wedding just relaxing, spending time with friends, and touring the city. Then the day arrived and I tell you, things could not have gone more perfectly. My wonderful family and friends took care of every tiny detail and there was not one moment of stress. Let me encourage all (4 of you) who read this to make your wedding a destination and keep it small. You'll have no regrets. I certainly don't.
<br />
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmpPue84kx3yOR8eDk-efXq3njlHBVJ-bJ4oGEfhXhGEXNPEFFOCPSJ3VAAtN1n4P8JO_IeKCrAtYmTlM9CU9xkFtLLHg5Qx1hEmlZ9UWoub4-ZR108heFyszB9GPbJI0RBZ4dlV0Ts20/s1600-h/Bride+%26+Groom.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmpPue84kx3yOR8eDk-efXq3njlHBVJ-bJ4oGEfhXhGEXNPEFFOCPSJ3VAAtN1n4P8JO_IeKCrAtYmTlM9CU9xkFtLLHg5Qx1hEmlZ9UWoub4-ZR108heFyszB9GPbJI0RBZ4dlV0Ts20/s400/Bride+%26+Groom.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422702747199958498" border="0" /></a>
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">THE TUMOR
<br /><div style="text-align: left;">
<br />And now we reach a more serious part of the program. Warning: semi-graphic pictures ahead. In early November Greg was diagnosed with a brain tumor in his front right lobe and was scheduled for surgery the following week. The surgery took about 7 hours, but was as successful as possible and despite the incision that extended half way across Greg's skull, we were only required to stay 2 nights in the hospital and then released to go back home. Since then we've spent what feels like most of our time on the journey between Provo and Salt Lake for numerous doctor's appointments, and for Greg's daily radiation treatments. We're more than half way done at this point, so life is looking up and despite how serious this all sounds, we've been very blessed through it all with Greg's speedy recovery from surgery and the fact that neither the chemotherapy or radiation treatments have made him sick. All in all, kind of a crazy ride for three months of marriage, but through it all I'd say we've emerged closer than ever. Look at me finding silver linings, huh?
<br /></div></div>
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7RoSwdGG8sceXMvnRv5N0M4-uVd4UH4GXFwkjQmuOjHaxTutV4AJHVju68MgAiQnX9MyJ8Xnm5HaAPifkTsePOoqUELC5uqqUJ3XPTbQuMa1WclihNKxeRNK47iTXetv32iLLLkt4Zqs/s1600-h/Greg's+Surgery.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7RoSwdGG8sceXMvnRv5N0M4-uVd4UH4GXFwkjQmuOjHaxTutV4AJHVju68MgAiQnX9MyJ8Xnm5HaAPifkTsePOoqUELC5uqqUJ3XPTbQuMa1WclihNKxeRNK47iTXetv32iLLLkt4Zqs/s400/Greg's+Surgery.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422702752311736658" border="0" /></a>
<br />So there you have it, the big 3 of 2009. I must say, I've missed the blogging scene, and though I refuse to make blogging more often a resolution, I do hope to update more than once every 9 months. Although, maybe by then I'll have <meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"><meta name="ProgId" content="Word.Document"><meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 12"><meta It's been a pretty full couple of months.<br /><br />Today is a good day to blog because it marks the day I make a big decision, and big decision days should probably be remembered. After having survived the recruiting season, I'm now tasked with choosing the internship that will hopefully become my job for at least the next who knows how many years. Kind of crazy to think of how much could potentially hinge on this day. No pressure or anything...<br /><br />In other non-school/job related news, I somehow miraculously escaped illness this Thanksgiving, which breaks the pattern of my life for the past 5 years or so. This is truly a feat considering the fact that I even willingly exposed myself to the germ pool that was my sick niece and nephews all weekend. I'm kind of proud of my little immune system, and I also now feel justified in avoiding the flu-shot this season.<br /><br />Lastly, I heart Redbox. Really, is there anything better than being able to drive over to your local McD's to pick up a sappy romcom at any hour of the night? The $15 in charges I racked up this weekend tell me there is not.juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-10444894659831269492008-11-15T22:43:00.000-08:002008-11-15T22:44:10.165-08:00I Promise To BlogSoon.juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-28742169705414931772008-09-21T00:46:00.001-07:002008-09-21T01:09:02.988-07:00Too long babyI was going to start out by apologizing for how long it has been since I last posted, but an apology would imply that I intend to correct the problem by blogging more often, which is not a promise I can deliver on. If there's one thing I've learned over the last few weeks it's that I'm not good for delivering anything but school work. I am a B-school content machine.<br /><br />Yeah, yeah, school is boring boring to write about so let's move on. All in all, today was a pretty rad day. It started with a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">pre</span>-interview interview for a potential internship for the summer, which I felt went pretty well. Oops, that's school talk. I also spent some quality time with my sister-in-law, bought two pairs of amazing stilettos, had a coke <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">slurpee</span>, went to a phenomenal concert at the conference center, and finished the night visiting with some people I just really like.<br /><br />Now I'm sitting on my bed at my brothers house. It's a real bed with a bed frame and sheets that fit. Gosh I love it here. I realized just now that I haven't eaten all day, but I'm not going to do anything about it now because, well, it's 2 AM and the trek upstairs just isn't worth it. I am, however, going to end this pointless pointless post and go to sleep. Guess I was just feeling the need to reach out to the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">cyber</span> world.juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-12560542335684680342008-09-10T20:07:00.000-07:002008-09-10T20:48:17.042-07:00FlossomeA person can only tolerate school so long. For me,the tipping point is about 12 hours, after which I generally push my useless self through one more, then calmly exit the building while resisting the urge run and sing from the hilltops with beautiful exclamations of freedom. Thirteen hours may seem like an exaggeration, but I assure you it is not. If I'm not actually in class, I'm working on a group project, and if not that, I'm reading, and if not that, I'm attending an information session for a potential employer. And if I'm not still at school, I'm probably home sitting on my air mattress, ruining my back, and working on the stuff I didn't get done during regular business hours. But I'm not complaining about the hours. Really. The truth is that I'm actually very interested in everything I'm studying, and that factor makes the time go by rather quickly. Add that to the fact that school is about 9,000 times more interesting than my last job, and I'm sitting pretty. On my air mattress.<br /><br />I am complaining, however, about the fact that since the start of school I have literally not had time to floss my teeth. Don't act all grossed out, I still brush three times a day, which statistics tell me is three times more than about 37% of you. Now <span style="font-style: italic;">that's</span> gross. Anyway, the real point is that the epiphany I had while bloodying up my gums tonight was that I absolutely must make time for the little things that bring me joy--be they blogging or flossing, or doing both simultaneously. These are the things that will keep me sane. And gingivitis free.<br /><br />As a bonus, taking time to do things outside the realm of education might also give me something more interesting to blog about than bloody gums. Are you grossed out yet?juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-58646756159989676532008-09-02T20:29:00.000-07:002008-09-02T20:46:45.098-07:00MBA 101: LifestyleIf there is one perk about going back to school it might be that I now have a real excuse to call Top Ramen and various Chef Boyardee canned cuisines dinner. Today, in fact, was the first time I've been grocery shopping in over a month and I really did delight in finding some of the crappiest/cheapest stuff that Macey's had to offer. Even shopping at Macey's screams student loan survival.<br /><br />I guess there's no real reason for me to be living the "college" lifestyle. I own an entire <span style="font-style: italic;">house </span>for heavens sake, but either my pride or my laziness keeps me rocking the air mattress and rubbermaid bins for my clothes even three weeks into this new situation. Don't worry though, I finally bought sheets today. Of course, in keeping with tradition of this lifestyle, they are a size too large and pushing 150 thread count on a good day--but hey, they were on sale!<br /><br />Basically I probably need to re-prioritize my life so that I'm not curled up on my sagging mattress every night, eating ravioli and combing the web with every intention of purchasing new electronics or a flight to Boston for the weekend. Also, I need to start doing my homework before 10 PM. I'm out.juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-29638301929009481512008-09-01T22:24:00.000-07:002008-09-01T23:26:33.369-07:00Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of this weekIt's probably worth mentioning that I'm having trouble remembering to capitalize letters at the beginning of sentences since I refrained from doing so in my <a href="http://juliehulet.blogspot.com/">old blog</a>. I once read <a href="http://penquibblies.blogspot.com/2006/12/for-pullytzer_07.html">a poem</a> that persuaded me to write in all lower case letters in order to gain some street cred in the blogging world. Now, after years of doing so, my brain automatically reverts to this writing style within the blogger program. I'm trying to break the habit.<br /><br />Tomorrow I start my real classes which begin at 8 AM and end in about two years. Simply based on the mass amount of homework I did this weekend, I think I can confidently surrender my personal life right here and now. The upside is that I actually <span style="font-style: italic;">enjoyed</span> the chapters and cases I read in preparation for tomorrows discussions. Sick, I know. Also, I guess if there's a school that has to own my soul for the next two years, it may as well be the right one.*<br /><br />In other news, I was stung by a hornet twice this weekend. The same hornet. While cruising down the road on the 4-wheeler we somehow collided at my neck, the only piece of exposed skin on my body, and at what felt like that exact moment he managed to sting me there, fall down my shirt, and sting me again in the chest. It felt like an electric shock had gone through me and I'm still not sure how I managed to pull the bike over, rip off my helmet, goggles, and gloves, reach down my shirt and pull him out of there without further injury to myself. I don't know if I can say the same about the hornet because my only inclination through the mind numbing pain was to throw him as far as I could, but I'd like to think he made it out of there okay and that I'm not going to hell for needlessly killing one of Gods creations. Hopefully there are exceptions for when a FREAKING HORNET GOES DOWN YOUR SHIRT. Anyway, this was by far one of the more random occurances of my life, and hopefully one of those occurances I can write about with proper punctuation and still gain some street cred in the bloggersphere.**<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:85%;">*This is my first attempt at Cougar pride. Is it working?<br />**Is the word "blogosphere"?</span>juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-78230443990115211922008-08-23T23:22:00.001-07:002008-08-24T00:20:21.156-07:00That's really uninterestingWhen I decided to begin this new blog I thought that instead of writing about the general happenings of my life, I'd try to focus on making it an accurate depiction of my educational experience. Perhaps my hope was to shed some light on the realities of b-school at the BY for those who may be considering a future here. To create a beacon of truth for the unassuming and eager GMAT takers of the world. To publish a herald to the trials and tribulations of my fellow students and blah blah blah...BORING. The idea hasn't even held for the first two entries. I guess that could be because we're only half way through orientation at this point and the only things of mild interest I could share would be about the paper airplane my group built that didn't win yesterday's competition, or the moment we almost dropped a group member in the water at our Army leadership training. These things aside however, I realize that virtually no one will care about how much time it's going to take my group to put together a presentation on ethical financial reporting, the hours of sleep lost over a mid-term paper, or the number of chocolate covered cinnamon bears I consume each day. I'm already bored writing these hypothetical topics that could appear hereafter--except for the part about the cinnamon bears--so I'm guessing that if I can't even stay interested in myself, nobody else will.<br /><br />The moral of this story is that the chocolate covered cinnamon bears really do live up to their reputation. Also, I have no intention of doing anything in particular with this blog except for making it pretty much the same as the <a href="http://juliehulet.blogspot.com/">old blog</a> with a lighter template and a new address. It goes without saying that since I've sold my soul to school for the next two years, it just might come up every now and again but hopefully somewhere between the gummys and the balance sheets I can manage to do interesting enough things with my life to keep you three readers entertained.juhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02431940690520548109noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985498464473049950.post-82418514687676050212008-08-21T22:48:00.000-07:002008-08-21T23:03:11.053-07:00Inaugural NightThis is a new blog for a new time of life.
